Mr. Cantú holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s University School of Law and completed his Bachelor in General Business with a Minor in International Management from the University of Texas San Antonio.
Mr. Cantú grew up in the town of Laredo, Texas. Guided by his entrepreneurial spirit, he moved to San Antonio to earn his business degree and shortly after graduation started his own business. What started off as him and his young son selling flagstone out of his pickup truck, quickly grew into a construction company specializing in both residential and commercial outdoor masonry work. After witnessing ample injustice among immigrants and the hardships that fell among them, he decided to take advantage of his educational opportunities and closed his business to pursue a law degree.
During law school, Mr. Cantú worked as a Lead Teaching Assistant for Associate Dean Reynaldo Valencia. He also volunteered in numerous pro bono programs at the Center for Legal and Social Justice, from Identification Recovery for the homeless to volunteering at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials.
With pressure to follow his dreams and support his family, Mr. Cantú graduated a semester early and in the top 25% of his class. Soon thereafter he became an associate attorney at a personal injury firm in San Antonio handling commercial cases. After some time however, Mr. Cantú’s entrepreneurial spirit took over again.
Mr. Cantú is married to his high school girlfriend, Theresa N. Medina-Cantú. Together they have three beautiful children, Evan, Madeleine and Tristan. Mr. Cantú is passionate about spending time with his family. He too is an avid runner, having co-founded the Alamo-to-Border Ultra-Marathon, a relay race from San Antonio to Laredo in an effort to bring the two cities closer.
